Tanmay Banerjee

Tanmay Banerjee is an Indian sculptor trained at Kalabhavan, Visva Bharati University in Santiniketan, where he completed a five-year diploma and two-year advanced diploma in fine arts — the same institution that shaped generations of modern Indian sculptors. He works almost exclusively in bronze, casting each piece as a single edition rather than a limited series, which lends his output a sense of individuality and permanence.

His style sits at the intersection of figuration and expressive abstraction. Banerjee is drawn to weighty, grounded forms — bulls and cows recur throughout his work, rendered with rounded, monumental volumes that emphasize mass and stillness over naturalistic detail. He also produces portrait sculpture, including a bronze study of Rabindranath Tagore. Across both genres, his surfaces retain visible tool marks and patina variation, giving the bronze a tactile, handmade warmth.
