Bhaskar Lahiri

Bhaskar Lahiri, born in 1961 in Howrah, is a Kolkata-based artist whose work reflects a deep engagement with Indian philosophy, history, religion, and folk culture. He earned his diploma in Fine Arts from the Indian College of Art & Draftsmanship, Kolkata, in 1986, and studied at the College of Visual Arts, Kolkata, under the eminent painter Subhaprasanna.

His home state of West Bengal, with its rich and colorful folk art traditions, remains his greatest inspiration, shaping paintings that offer a contemporary vision of the Bengal he loves. While drawing on old Rajput artworks, Lahiri's style carves out its own distinct identity through richly textured surfaces, intricate detailing, and near-geometric proportions. His canvases blend the grandeur of ancient civilizations with folk sensibility, resulting in compositions that feel both timeless and strikingly modern. Layered color, pattern, and form come together in his work to evoke myth, memory, and the visual language of Bengal's cultural heritage
