Sharmila Sharma

Contemporary Figurative

Sharmila Sharma

A Delhi-based artist trained in Fine Arts at Jiwaji University, Gwalior, with over 25 years of practice in acrylic and watercolor. Her work is anchored in figurative art, though her technique restlessly shifts between knife painting, brush work, and passages of abstraction, giving each series its own visual language.

Her body of work unfolds as distinct series, each with its own subject and mood. The Metro Series captures the rhythm of urban life, its commutes, crowds, and fleeting human moments, in bold color blocking and dynamic, layered brushwork. The Puppet Series turns to traditional string puppetry, rendering its stylized figures and vivid costumes with rich texture and expressive color, using the puppet as a quiet metaphor for tradition and human emotion.

Across her many series, Sharmila's style stays instantly recognizable: strong figuration, tactile surfaces, and a confident, saturated palette that moves fluidly between realism and abstraction to hold stillness and vitality in the same frame.
