Sekhar Roy is a contemporary Indian figurative painter. He moved to India as a child amid political and economic upheaval, he pursued art largely as a self-taught painter. His work centers on Indian mythology, especially Lord Krishna, whom he portrays repeatedly in varied postures and expressions, describing the deity as embodying "love, passion and a thoughtful mind." Stylistically, Roy favors bold, vivid brushstrokes and a bright, saturated color palette that lends his canvases an emotive, almost theatrical intensity.
