Ranjit Sarkar

Ranjit Sarkar is a contemporary Indian painter, graduated from Calcutta University in 1997 and trained in Indian-style painting.  Sarkar has built a body of work centered on women, dance, and Indian mythology and culture.

His signature style blends realism with impressionistic sensibility, using acrylic as his primary medium to create intricate, layered compositions. Rather than simply depicting figures, he modifies natural forms and proportions to heighten emotional intensity, striving for what he describes as an "intense impression of realism." Classical and folk dance forms such as Kathaputli, Kalbeliya, and Dandia recur throughout his canvases, capturing the energy and joyfulness of performers while exploring the deeper relationship between human passion and surrounding environment. He also works in stitch art, extending his textured, narrative approach beyond paint.
