Mrinal Dutt

Contemporary Figurative

Mrinal Dutt

Mrinal Dutt is a contemporary artist based in Ahmedabad whose path to the canvas began far from art school. Trained as an electrical engineer, he chose colour over circuitry, teaching himself to paint and building, within a few years, a body of work distinguished enough to earn the Art Ellipse International Art Award and a Gold Medal at Kala Aakar's Art Fest, with exhibitions in Ahmedabad, Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai, and Bhopal.

Drawing inspiration from M.F. Husain, Dutt has forged a style entirely his own, marked by a signature dripping-paint technique that lends his surfaces movement and energy. Working in acrylic layered with charcoal powder, he sets saturated colour against dramatic tonal depth, giving his large-format canvases striking presence.

At the centre of his practice is the feminine form, envisioned as goddess, mother, and preserver of the universe. His mythological and figurative works reimagine Krishna, Shiva, and the Ramayana, fusing devotion with contemporary expression.
