Monalisa Sarkar

Contemporary Figurative Artist

Monalisa Sarkar

Monalisa Sarkar (also credited as Monalisa Sarkar Mitra) is a contemporary Indian artist whose work fuses Impressionism, Classicism, and Romanticism into vivid, narrative-driven paintings. Working chiefly in acrylic on canvas, she builds visual "storytelling tapestries" around the bonds of love, relationships, nature, and animals, often infused with nostalgia for her Jharkhand upbringing and a spirit of hope and positivity. Recurring subjects include Hindu deities and mythological figures — her Vishnupriya series portrays the luminous, four-armed goddess adorned in ornate jewelry and rendered in vivid, converging hues symbolizing prosperity, while works like Dream Kantha, Nilkantha, Durge, and Kanha draw on folk motifs and spiritual themes. Her Love and Friendship series explore intimate human connection, and her Intimate Series extends this exploration further.
