Laxman Aeley

Laxman Aelay is a celebrated Indian painter born on June 8, 1965, in Kadirenigudem, Telangana. Coming from a family of weavers, he began his artistic journey as a signboard painter and book illustrator before earning a BFA and MFA from the College of Fine Arts at JNAFAU, Hyderabad, followed by a PhD from EFLU.

Aelay's paintings vividly capture rural Telangana life, rendered in earthy reds, greens, and yellows with richly textured compositions. Women feature prominently in his work, portrayed with cultural detailing such as traditional jewelry and saree patterns, reflecting both the struggles and joys of village communities. His style has evolved from early monochromatic pieces to vibrant, layered color.

Notable works include the Poolamma Series, celebrating feminine empowerment; the Song of the Village Series; Head of the Village; and pieces like The Gathering and The Village Vendors. His achievements include a Bronze Medal (1987), Gold Medal (1993), an international exhibition in Chicago (1995), and designing Telangana's official state logo.
