Kanchan Barui

Kanchan Barui whose acrylic paintings draw viewers into luminous, nocturnal gardens where nature unfolds in whispers of light and colour.  Barui's practice is rooted in close observation of the natural world — petals, leaves, and small creatures rendered in careful detail and set adrift against deep, atmospheric backgrounds. 

Formally, Barui simplifies and rounds the botanical world into soft, bulbous, almost sculptural shapes — leaves curl and pool like water, petals are rendered with a smooth, decorative fullness that sits between realism and stylisation. This treatment lends the compositions a dreamlike, slightly abstracted rhythm, even as individual flowers (tuberoses, lilies, water blooms) remain carefully observed and botanically legible. Colour is used symbolically as much as descriptively: cool blues and purples evoke stillness and mystery, while occasional flashes of coral, gold, or white stand in for hope, vitality, or a single point of focus within the dark.
