Gopal Samantray

Gopal, Growing up near forested, famine-hit regions of Odisha left him with a lasting sensitivity to nature and its fragility, a theme that runs through his work today.

Samantray's paintings confront humanity's fractured relationship with the natural world. Through haunting depictions of displaced animals, fading forests, and skies heavy with unspoken sorrow, he addresses the toll of deforestation, industrial growth, and ecological neglect. His canvases don't accuse; they grieve, and invite viewers to reckon with what has been lost.

His work has featured at the India Art Fair and in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Lucknow, and beyond since the early 2000s. He has received recognition from TREE Bhubaneswar and the Government of Odisha for his contribution to environmental art.
