Fawad Tamkanat

Contemporary Landscape Artist

Fawad Tamkanat

Fawad Tamkanat  is a senior artist whose practice bridges classical Indian draughtsmanship with a global painterly sensibility. A gold medallist in both his BFA and MFA from the University of Hyderabad, he trained under the celebrated printmaker Laxma Goud, even as he was already sought after for guest lectures — a period he fondly recalls, when contemporaries such as Nagesh Goud and Laxman Aeley were still students. His journey across drawing, drypoint and painting has since taken him through a residency in Denmark and years lived between Saudi Arabia, Hyderabad and Sydney. Tamkanat is best known for his richly layered cityscapes, distilling the domes, arches and russet roofs of Hyderabad, Istanbul and Florence into a single, memory-laced idiom. His work is held in collections including the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, and the Kirsten Kjaer Museum, Denmark, across more than 100 solo exhibitions worldwide.
