Devidas Dharmadhikari

Devidas Dharmadhikari is a painter and sculptor whose work centres on one enduring subject: the horse. Trained in drawing and painting at Dalvi's Art Institute, Kolhapur, he began his career as a freelance artist and has spent over two decades working across oils, acrylics, pastels and watercolours.

His canvases are known for their dynamic, large-scale compositions of horses caught mid-motion — muscular, charged with energy, and rendered with a true-to-life sense of anatomy and movement. He often paints them in contrasting pairs, black against white or brown against white, using colour to build tension and balance within the frame. Over time he has developed a distinctive technique that builds visual depth and layering using acrylic paint alone, giving his work a textured, almost sculptural quality that sets it apart from conventional equine art. Beyond painting, he has also translated this subject into sculpture, working in mediums like acrylic on fibreglass.
