Aparajita Kohli is a visual artist whose practice sits at the intersection of painting, architecture and design. Working under Studio Aparajita, she builds fictional cultural worlds, drawing on architecture, ornament, folklore and everyday objects as her visual vocabulary. Rather than depicting existing places, she constructs new ones by weaving together influences from different geographies and time periods, inviting viewers into settings that feel strangely familiar, where memory and imagination coexist.
Her body of work unfolds across distinct series, each with its own visual language: The Velvet Deck reimagines playing-card royalty through a surreal, ornamental lens inspired by Mexican visual culture and fashion symbolism, alongside series such as Abhinaya, Cities Never Built, After Hours, Chromatic Silence, Contemporary Heritage, Kitchen Pop and The Midnight Archive. Across these bodies of work, Kohli's paintings read as richly patterned, narrative tableaux that blur the line between documentation and invention.
