Anand Panchal

Anand Panchal is a Hyderabad-based artist whose paintings, sketches and sculptures explore the many facets of rural Indian life — its people, its landscapes, and above all, its children. Anand is known for his portraits of village boys and girls — barefoot, bright-eyed, caught mid-laughter or lost in a private daydream. He paints them as subjects of joy: children who possess an abundance of community, imagination and unguarded happiness. He is a happy person, and he chooses to see — and paint — that same lightness in the children of the villages he knows so well.

That intimacy with rural life is not observation from a distance but lived experience. Anand grew up amid fields, pastures, stones and open village terrain, and farming has remained close to his heart ever since — a motif that runs through his practice as both subject and sensibility. Across sketches, paintings and sculpture, Anand Panchal's work returns, again and again, to a single, unhurried idea: that childhood, community and one's bond with the land are among the most beautiful spaces we have — and among the most worth remembering.
