Viswathi's paintings, largely in watercolour, revisit her childhood landscape through the animals, plants, and people who inhabit it. Series such as "Inheritors of the Earth" and "At the Peak of Pleasure" place otters, monkeys, peacocks, and deer alongside labouring figures within lush, memory-drawn terrain, exploring survival as a condition shared by humans and animals. Her palette shifts between earthy ochres and saturated pinks, often set against torn, deckle-edged paper that evokes worn botanical plates. Drawing on company painting, folk art, and miniature traditions, she also works in charcoal, hand stitching, and handmade paper, treating each medium as another way of holding memory and labour together.
