Rahul Singh Shyam

Rahul comes from a Pardhan Gond artistic lineage and have a direct family connection with the late Jangarh Singh Shyam ji, whose pioneering artistic practice and distinctive visual language became an important foundation of the contemporary Jangarh Kalam tradition. He grew up observing his work and artistic approach, and have also had the opportunity to learn about the finer aspects of this tradition through his brother and mentor, Padma Shri Bhajju Shyam ji, who was closely guided and mentored by Jangarh ji and with whom he worked as an assistant.

Jangarh ji’s emphasis on developing an individual artistic language, with one’s own visual vocabulary, motifs, designs and narratives, has been an important influence on his own practice. Rahul continues to engage with this artistic tradition while developing his work through his own creative perspective and evolving visual language.
